Bringing together nearly 1,600 customers within three weeks is no small feat, but our annual Customer Appreciation meetings are important to Farm Credit East’s mission and grassroots foundation. If you weren’t able to attend this year, here’s a review of the highlights.
Good analysis starts with good data. The USDA’s Census of Agriculture is a valuable source of data to understand the make-up and operation of our nation’s agriculture, and so it’s important that it’s as accurate and comprehensive as possible. New farmers, or existing farmers who have not participated in a prior Census of Agriculture, can sign up to be counted through the end of June.
It’s been a cold and wet start to the growing season, impacting vegetable growers across the Northeast. In general, reports from New England and New Jersey indicate that early crops like leafy greens have done well, but summer crops are behind schedule.
In Farm Credit East’s annual survey of Northeast farm, fishing and forestry producers, participants were asked to provide anindication of their expectations and concerns for 2017. A cross section of more than 150 producers provided their insights in this year’s survey.
