2025 marks the International Year of Cooperatives. Additionally, each October is observed as the national Co-Op month to recognize the value of people-centered businesses. Farm Credit East is proud to be a cooperative, collectively owned and operated by its customers. This cooperative ownership means customers have a voice in their cooperative through a customer-elected board of directors who are also customer owners. 

President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) into law over the July 4th holiday. In addition to the extension of the current individual tax rates, today’s blog, the second in a multi-part series will focus on some of the key individual provisions.

Cooperative teamwork played a key role in Connecticut’s budget success, delivering meaningful gains for Northeast agriculture. Farm Credit East members and leaders championed the investment tax credit (ITC). This month’s Knowledge Exchange Partner article highlights new tax credits for Connecticut farmers and similar opportunities in New York and Maine.

The Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement Program, a joint effort of Farm Credit East and CoBank, recently provided $113,000 in grant funding to 20 organizations to assist their efforts to encourage youth leadership development, support young and beginning farmer initiatives, promote diversity, equity and inclusion, and advance northeast agriculture, forestry and commercial fishing.

As Thanksgiving approaches, we may find ourselves looking back on the past year and appreciating the many reasons to be grateful. Even when challenges arise, it’s important to recognize the good that surrounds us. With the spirit of reflection in mind, we wanted to share some thoughts of gratitude from Farm Credit East employees.

While corn and soybean crop planting is slightly ahead of last year nationally, it is way behind in New York and across the Northeast, due to unusually cold and wet weather, making field work difficult.

Topics include the growth pattern of the economy, supply chain, labor availability, input cost increases, inflationary pressures and consumer spending.
