CORTLAND, N.Y. — Farm Credit East is pleased the Risk Management Agency (RMA) has approved the expansion of several crop insurance programs for New Jersey growers for the 2023 crop year. Apple crop insurance has been expanded to Morris, Ocean, Somerset and Sussex counties; grape crop insurance has been expanded to Ocean, Salem, Sussex and Warren counties; and peach crop insurance has been expanded to Mercer, Monmouth, Ocean and Sussex counties.
“This extension of coverage expands the federal crop insurance program’s safety net for New Jersey farmers, allowing producers to expand their current risk management plan or develop a plan that includes crop insurance,” said Jeremy Forrett, senior vice president for Crop Growers, LLP.
Grace Wheeler, senior marketing agent for Crop Growers, LLP, commented, “The expansion of the apple, peach and grape policies in New Jersey gives growers the opportunity to choose what is best for their personal farm operations, which is a positive change.”
Caleb Orr, crop insurance specialist for Crop Growers, LLP, added, “I am excited about the approved program expansions. Producers should be given all options when choosing how they are going to manage risk on their farms, and these expansions allow just that.”
