Farm Credit East Encourages Stockholders to Vote in 2018 Director Elections

The 2018 director candidates were formally introduced at Farm Credit East’s Annual Meeting last week, and following, voting stockholders were mailed their ballots to vote in the 2018 Director Elections. As a customer-owned cooperative, the annual director election is an important opportunity for stockholders to express their voice in ownership and direction of the cooperative. Farm Credit East encourages members to vote. Ballots must be returned by Tuesday, April 17

In 2018, there are six candidates running for the three open director seats on the Farm Credit East Board. Each seat to be elected is for a four-year term. Following are this year’s six highly-qualified candidates. More information on each candidate, including written profiles and video interviews, are available here

SEAT ONE, FROM THE EASTERN REGION

  • Michael Brooks, of Elmer, N.J., is managing partner and majority owner of Dusty Lane Farms LLC, a diverse 1,400-acre irrigated grain and vegetable farm, growing white potatoes, sweet corn, spinach, peppers, wheat, corn and soybeans.
  • James Robbins II, of Searsmont, Maine, is the president of Robbins Lumber, Inc., a fully integrated sawmill that produces Eastern White Pine lumber and manages 27,000 acres of timberland in Maine.

SEAT TWO, FROM THE CENTRAL REGION

  • Peter Barton, of Poughquag, N.Y., is owner and operator of Barton Entertainment Co., LLC, overseeing Barton Orchards, a diverse 175-acre agritourism farm operation offering 18 different varieties of pick-your-own vegetables, field crops and tree fruit.
  • Philip “Jamie” Jones, of Shelton, Conn., is co-owner and managing member of Jones Family Farms, LLC, a 400-acre retail farm growing strawberries, blueberries, pumpkins and Christmas trees and owns Jones Family Farms Winery, LLC.

SEAT THREE, FROM THE WESTERN REGION

  • Brett Kreher, of Clarence, N.Y., is a partner at Kreher's Poultry Farms (and related entities), an egg production business raising just under two million hens that produces conventional and organic egg across three locations.
  • Terry Zittel, of Eden, N.Y., is corporate secretary and business manager of Amos Zittel & Sons, Inc., a wholesale vegetable, flower and retail market business growing 300 acres of fresh market vegetables, including sweet corn, peppers, lettuce and more.

The 2018 Director Election polls will close Tuesday, April 17. Each voting stockholder is encouraged to vote for one candidate in each of the three open positions. A tellers committee of members will count the votes and declare the winners within five business days of the voting deadline. For more information on this year’s candidates, click here
