Farm Credit East Awards $49,500 in Higher Education Scholarships

Farm Credit East, the Northeast’s largest agricultural lender, recently awarded $49,500 in higher education scholarships to 32 student recipients. Farm Credit East’s scholarship program supports students with diverse career aspirations in agriculture, commercial fishing, forest products and related fields from across the association’s seven-state territory.

“This year’s scholarship recipients aspire to make a difference in their communities and are well on their way to becoming future industry leaders and entrepreneurs,” said CEO Mike Reynolds.

Farm Credit East Board Chair Laurie Griffen commented, “The Farm Credit East Board of Directors congratulates these deserving students and wishes them the best for a successful educational experience.”

The following students will each receive a $1,500 Farm Credit East scholarship. Additionally, Charlotte Keil, of Mattituck, N.Y., received the Farm Credit East “Chair Scholarship” following an additional review of the applications for individuals who plan to pursue a career in production agriculture. This recipient earned an additional $1,500 award.

Keil is from Farm Credit East’s Riverhead, N.Y., office territory and attends Cornell University where she majors in agricultural sciences. Upon graduation, she aims to become the first woman in a leadership role in her family’s wholesale greenhouse business.

NEW ENGLAND RECIPIENTS

From the Auburn, Maine, office territory:

  • Amber Ferris of Peru, Maine, majors in animal and veterinary science at the University of Maine.
  • Marielle Pelletier of Industry, Maine, attends the University of Maine, majoring in animal science.
  • Cierra Waters of Bradford, Maine, majors in business administration at Husson University.

From the Bedford, N.H., office territory:

  • Brian Curley of Ipswich, Mass., attends the University of Massachusetts – Amherst, majoring in sustainable horticulture.
  • Colin Kadis of Newton, Mass., majors in animal science at Cornell University.
