As a Tax Intern, you will be welcomed to the Mayville, NY branch of the Farm Credit East team and quickly challenged with real work and projects that impact our customers and our organization. You will work alongside our accounting and tax associates to assist with all areas of financial service administration including tasks such as: financial record keeping, simple and sole proprietor tax returns, preparation of 1099 documents, year-end payroll processing, tax and record documentation, and customer communication.

Depending upon experience, the incumbent is accountable for the following:

  • Direct Provision of Financial Services: Provide high value financial services to customers for a profitable fee. Accurately prepare tax returns, state and federal payroll filings, and other returns. Maintain current federal and state tax knowledge and have a thorough understanding of all tax and records software programs. Maintain proper documentation and communication with members and staff in order to respond to internal and external customer needs. 
  • Support and Processing: Provide superior customer service in all customer interactions. Provide support and assistance whenever possible to financial services customers, credit customers and team members or direct the customers to the proper service provider within Farm Credit East. Assist with verbal and written communication with colleagues, customers, attorneys, title companies and insurance companies.
  • Accounting: Ensure the timely and accurate accounting of all loan, financial services, and general ledger transactions for customers and Farm Credit East. This may include origination entries, financial services billing, various types of advances, proper payment application, establishing new accounts, maintaining existing accounts, reconciliation, processing loan payouts, and GL balancing.
  • Member Relations/Teamwork: Provide outstanding customer service (both internal and external) and deliver exceptional customer experience and value by setting, communicating and meeting customer expectations. Demonstrate a strong community commitment and professional presence that contributes to the overall positive image of Farm Credit East. Act in a forthright and ethical manner, display a positive attitude and contribute positively to the overall morale of the team and association. Assist other team members and contribute to training.

Required Qualifications

Current college students pursuing a degree in accounting, finance, business, economics or a related field.
