Farm Credit East Regional Credit Leader, Ted Black, leads credit and appraisal teams across three offices and helps customers navigate complex credit decisions. Since joining Farm Credit East in 2014, he has held several roles, including Mortgage Specialist and Director of the Country Living Loans program. He transitioned into credit leadership in late 2025.
The Role of a Regional Credit Leader
As Regional Credit Leader, Ted oversees a team of loan officers and appraisers serving three Farm Credit East offices. He reviews loan opportunities and discusses customer strategies, while developing his team and coordinating across departments. Ted's primary focus is ensuring his team has the resources they need to deliver exceptional service to customers.
“My role is really about supporting the team to make sure they have the skills, information and confidence they need to deliver results and provide our customers with a great experience,” Ted explained.
Collaboration at the Center
One thing many people may not realize is how much collaboration takes place behind the scenes to support Farm Credit East customers. Financing a farm, agribusiness or rural property often involves expertise from multiple departments working together toward a common goal. Ted points to Farm Credit East's collaborative culture as one of the organization's greatest strengths.
"We really are a one-stop shop," he said. "No other organization that I know of has the combination of knowledge, skill level, talent and services that we provide our customers."
A Passion for Rural Communities
Ted's connection to agriculture began long before his Farm Credit East career. Growing up on a small dairy farm in Upstate New York, he developed an appreciation for farming and rural communities that continues to drive him today. After spending several years in retail sales following college, he was eager to return to an industry that aligned with his roots and values. Today, that passion remains at the core of his work.
"It's important to remember that what we do every day benefits the larger community," Ted said. "We provide the access to capital and financial services that helps keep Rural America strong."
For Ted, serving agriculture goes beyond financing. It's about supporting the farms, families, and businesses that form the backbone of rural communities throughout the Northeast.
Leading Through Relationships
Throughout his career at Farm Credit East, Ted has embraced opportunities to grow professionally and contribute beyond his day-to-day responsibilities. His involvement in leadership development initiatives and cross-functional projects has allowed him to gain a broader perspective on the Farm Credit System and organization's mission and build relationships both locally and nationally — and it’s these relationships he most values. These connections have helped him collaborate more effectively, learn from others and better support his team as a leader.
While his responsibilities are varied, Ted finds the most rewarding moments are often the simplest. “A good day at work is when I can help my team solve a problem that provides value, delivers results or enhances customer relationships,” he said.
That customer-first mindset, combined with his commitment to teamwork, continuous learning and relationship building, continues to guide Ted as he helps support Farm Credit East's mission of serving agriculture and rural communities across the Northeast.
