Those of us in the U.S. are often unaware of just how much the American dairy industry varies from much of the rest of the world. This is one of the reasons Farm Credit East has been a part of the International Farm Comparison Network for the past 10 years; to support their mission to better understand and forecast the dairy economy.
Farm Credit East is committed to supporting the next generation of agriculture, commercial fishing and forest products industry leaders. As such, we launched a new scholarship program late last year for students involved in The National FFA Organization.
One of the challenges in discussing and measuring agritourism is defining it. Are all farm-based retail operations considered “agritourism,” or merely those which offer farm experiences beyond simply purchasing farm products? The boundaries of agritourism activities remains difficult and are discussed further in this article.
Educating the public about agriculture is important to Farm Credit East. Knowledgeable consumers who support agriculture are essential for the long-term strength of the Northeast agricultural, forest products and commercial fishing industries. At the same time, educating youth about agriculture is important to developing the next generation of ag business operators as well as future consumers.
