Farm Credit East is committed to supporting the next generation of agriculture, commercial fishing and forest products industry leaders. As such, we launched a new scholarship program late last year for students involved in The National FFA Organization.
One of the challenges in discussing and measuring agritourism is defining it. Are all farm-based retail operations considered “agritourism,” or merely those which offer farm experiences beyond simply purchasing farm products? The boundaries of agritourism activities remains difficult and are discussed further in this article.
Educating the public about agriculture is important to Farm Credit East. Knowledgeable consumers who support agriculture are essential for the long-term strength of the Northeast agricultural, forest products and commercial fishing industries. At the same time, educating youth about agriculture is important to developing the next generation of ag business operators as well as future consumers.
If you’ve been to the movies lately and stayed to watch the credits, it’s amazing to see how many people are involved in the production of a feature length film. And while Northeast farms, forest product and fishing businesses may not have as large of a supporting cast as a Hollywood blockbuster, it takes a team to produce the high quality food and fiber that consumers rely upon and enjoy.
