Green Industry Snapshot

Greenhouse, Nursery and Sod

  • Overall, the green industry had a good spring in 2023, but consumers are feeling the pinch of inflation and some are “trading down” in terms of price points at retailers. Still, sales volumes were up for most growers and retailers.
  • Rising costs have impacted margins. Most producers have been able to pass through price increases sufficient to cover these costs, but there is concern over whether that will continue.
  • Rainy weekend weather negatively impacted sales in some areas over the summer and early fall, with mum season being disappointing for some growers.
  • Product shortages have largely resolved, and some producers report having moderate excesses in certain varieties, although product sell-through is generally good for most items.
