The Return of Prevented Planting Plus 5%: What Producers Need to Know

The USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA) has reinstated the Prevented Planting Plus 5% option for the 2027 crop year. Producers will once again have the opportunity to purchase an additional 5% of prevented planting coverage, providing greater protection when adverse weather prevents intended acres from being planted.

Important Update on New York Farm Employer Overtime Tax Credit Refunds

After filing their 2025 tax returns, Farm Credit East learned that many farm taxpayers received an adjustment notice from New York State reducing the amount of their requested refund. The adjustments stemmed from a disallowance of the Farm Employer Overtime Tax Credit claimed on form CT- or IT-661.

Farm Credit East is pleased to present the 2025 Northeast Dairy Farm Summary (DFS) and outlook for the remainder of 2026. Now in its 46th year, the annual DFS is a unique project within the U.S. dairy industry, providing a major regional summary of actual dairy farm business results. This year's DFS includes data from 136 Northeast dairy farm operations. The farms analyzed range from 70 milking cows to more than 5,000.

Following the devastating spring freeze that damaged apple orchards across key production regions, USDA’s Risk Management Agency (RMA) has announced emergency procedures to accelerate crop insurance claim processing and indemnity payments for impacted New York apple growers.
