Make Agriculture Count! The 2022 USDA Census of Agriculture

The ag census is the most reliable source of information on U.S. agriculture and provides extremely valuable information. If you receive a form, we encourage you to fill it out to make sure agriculture is counted! Following are a few frequently asked questions we’ve received from our customers.

USDA Emergency Relief Programs for Producers

Emergency Relief Program (ERP) phase one closed on December 16, 2022. Phase two opened on January 23rd and runs through June 2, 2023. The funds appropriated by Congress will be distributed through the Emergency Livestock Relief Program (ELRP) and the ERP. Regarding ELRP, the Farm Service Agency will release more information once they have finished its analysis on the 2021 drought and wildfire impacts on livestock producers.

2021 Vegetable Industry Snapshot

Vegetable growers in the Northeast experienced significant draught in 2020, which is continuing through 2021. Growers selling to foodservice markets had to adjust their marketing, but those selling to grocery stores or direct-to-consumer have seen good sales. Like other agricultural commodities, vegetable demand has shifted but is still strong.

2021 Cash Field Crops Industry Snapshot

Cash field crops had a relatively good year in 2020, with most corn and soybean yields higher than 2019 averages. Ethanol production decreased due to reduced exports and domestic gasoline demand, however production levels should increase this year.

2021 Fruit Industry Snapshot

Different sectors of the fruit industry had highs and lows in 2020. Apples showed a smaller crop than usual, but cranberries did well due to increased retail juice sales. The wine and craft beverage sector was hit hard early in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, but bounced back with the availability of online ordering and curbside pickup.
